Getting Started in Apocalypse Rising 2

Beach spawn to first automatic — the day-one checklist Dualpoint survivors need.

Getting Started

Apocalypse Rising 2 by Dualpoint Interactive (place 863266079) drops you on a hostile archipelago with almost nothing and asks you to survive Infected, hunger, thirst, and other players. The game has been free-to-play since July 1, 2022. There is no win condition — only longer lives, better loadouts, and smarter routes. This guide is the first-hour checklist: lobby settings, spawn assessment, loot priorities, places to avoid, sound discipline, and what happens when you die.

Pair this page with Controls, the Loot Guide, the Weapons Tier List, PvP Tips, and the Codes hub (spoiler: there are none to redeem).

Before you spawn — lobby and settings

Take thirty seconds in settings before you care about loot:

  • Raise FOV toward the high end so you spot players and Infected earlier.
  • Turn volume up enough to hear footsteps, gunfire, and vehicle engines — audio is half of PvP.
  • Disable or tone down auto mantle / auto ladders if they yank you into bad peeks.
  • Remap anything that fights your muscle memory; almost all binds are changeable.
  • Confirm you are joining a public server you can leave if it is already a deathmatch at every military site.

If you play with friends, form a group of 2–5. Friendly fire is off inside that range, which lets you stack firepower without teamkilling. Solo is viable but every contested building becomes a coin flip.

Console players on Xbox and PS5 (support since May 2026; PS4 not supported) can follow the same loop. Keyboard and mouse remains the more precise option for inventory and gunfights when available — details live on the Controls page.

Spawn assessment — what you actually start with

A fresh life typically starts with:

  • Snubnose revolver (weak starter firearm)
  • Pocket knife (quiet melee)
  • Can of Beans and a drink (hunger / thirst starters)
  • Bandages (emergency bleed control)
  • Basic clothing and a nearly empty inventory

The Snubnose is a last-resort gun. Treat it as noise you barely want to use. The knife is your real early tool: melee Infected whenever you can so you do not announce your position with muzzle flash and gunfire.

Open the map with M immediately. Note which island you landed on (Halsey, Faris, Mackinaw, or a smaller outlying spawn), which marked towns are nearby, and which military icons you should not walk toward yet. Returning players often respawn near where they disconnected; fresh characters use the broader spawn set — either way, do not assume the nearest city is safe.

First loot priorities (in order)

Your shopping list for life one is short and ruthless:

  1. Backpack — Capacity decides whether you can keep food, ammo, and meds at the same time. Upgrade bags as soon as you see them.
  2. Automatic firearm — Full-auto rifles and SMGs forgive bad aim better than the Snubnose or slow semi-autos. Ammo that matches the gun matters more than rarity.
  3. Food and water — Hunger and thirst tick constantly and will kill you. Never leave a town without consumables.
  4. Medical supplies — Extra bandages, medkits, and anything that stops bleeding after a bad Infected swipe or a lost gunfight.
  5. Melee upgrade — A hatchet, crowbar, or better knife makes stealth Infected clears faster and safer.

Hit small towns (a handful of houses) first. They usually hold civilian crates with food, pistols, ammo, and sometimes a starter bag, with lighter Infected pressure and fewer campers than Ashland or the Prison. Loot, leave, and keep moving. Standing still in a looted house is how ambushes happen.

For a full town-tier ladder and military route notes, continue in the Loot Guide. For island hotspots and secret rooms, use Map Locations.

Places to avoid early

Do not sprint into these on a beach kit:

  • Naval Air Station (NAS) on / near Faris — top military loot, constant player traffic.
  • Ashland (Halsey) — dense urban loot and veteran campers.
  • Military Prison — special crates, boss Infected, and players hunting Snake MAC-10 / AK drops.

Those sites are end-of-route goals after you have a backpack, an automatic, meds, and a plan to disengage. Walking in naked is free loot for whoever is already camping the armory.

Casino, Magnolia, Beaufort military pockets, and random events (heli crashes, Techno Truck) are the same story: excellent rewards, terrible first-life odds. Circle them on the map for later.

Sound discipline and Infected habits

Every gunshot is a beacon. Prefer melee on Infected; strafing left and right beats standing still because their swings are slow. Quiet clears also tend to yield better loot outcomes than loud sprays — you spend less ammo and attract fewer third parties.

Other sound rules:

  • Sprint only when you must; walking and crouching (C) keep your audio footprint smaller.
  • Vehicles are loud. Drive for distance, then ditch them before contested loot.
  • Do not type your location in global chat. If someone outs you, relocate.
  • Reposition after any fight that went loud — winners get third-partied constantly.

When you are ready to fight players on purpose, read PvP Tips and pick guns from the Tier List instead of clinging to whatever spawned in a kitchen drawer.

Death, cosmetics, and mindset

Death drops your run gear. Cosmetics stay. There is no stash that saves your L96 from a bad peek. Play like every backpack is rented: take fights you can win, leave fights you cannot, and never tunnel on one perfect loadout.

Reset calmly. Check the map, pick a quiet town, rebuild the same priority list. Veterans lose kits too — the skill is rebuilding faster than the next camper expects.

Optional Starter Kit game passes (Veteran, Survivalist, Hunter, Bandit, and similar) skip the weakest minutes if you spend Robux. Nothing in them is required; everything can be looted. The 2x Infected Loot style passes help if you farm zombies for supplies. Always verify current pass contents in the Roblox store — Dualpoint tunes bundles over time.

Codes and misinformation

Apocalypse Rising 2 has no redeemable codes and no code-entry UI. Lists promising free guns or Robux for this place are filler. Confirm on the Codes page and spend your time looting instead.

First-hour checklist

  1. Tune FOV, volume, and movement assists.
  2. Spawn, open map, identify nearest small town.
  3. Melee Infected; save Snubnose ammo.
  4. Secure backpack → automatic → food/water → meds.
  5. Avoid NAS, Ashland, and Prison until geared.
  6. Join or form a 2–5 group if friends are online.
  7. Die, learn, repeat — cosmetics keep, gear resets.

When that checklist feels automatic, push mid-tier towns, then military sites with an exit plan. Use Controls if binds still feel awkward, and keep this Getting Started page bookmarked for friends you drop into the game.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What do I spawn with in Apocalypse Rising 2?

A typical fresh spawn includes a Snubnose revolver, a knife, beans, a drink, and bandages plus basic clothing. Treat the Snubnose as emergency only and prioritize a backpack and automatic gun.

Where should beginners loot first?

Small towns with a few houses. They hold food, basic weapons, and early bags with less player traffic than NAS, Ashland, or the Prison.

Do I lose everything when I die?

You lose that life's gear. Cosmetics and account unlocks remain. Rebuild from the beach kit each run.

Should I play solo or in a group?

Groups of 2–5 are safer. Friendly fire is off in that range, so teammates can stack angles without teamkilling.

Are there Apocalypse Rising 2 codes?

No. Dualpoint Interactive has not shipped a code redemption system. See the Codes hub for status updates.

Is console play supported?

Xbox and PS5 support arrived in May 2026. PS4 is not supported. Keyboard and mouse is still recommended for precision when available.
